Top 5 Worst Proposal Ideas

Top 5 Worst Proposal Ideas

Thinking of tying the knot? Here’s a list of 5 ways you should never propose.

1. Sneak into her facebook account and secretly change her relationship status to ”Engaged.” Wait to see how she reacts when hundreds of people start commenting, or better yet, calling to congratulate her. If she seems unenthused, blame it on a hacker.

2. Say to her… ”My mother has been really wanting grandchildren as of late. Whaddya say you let me water your seeds?…This will, of course, mean that we’ll have to make it official. You know I can’t have any bastards in my family.”

3. Buy a huge, puffy, white wedding dress. Put on the dres and wait for her to get home from work. Once she walks in, run around the house screaming and hyperventilating like a madman. When she asks you what the heck you are doing, tell her you’re doing your impersonation of her after you propose.

4. Go to a cheesy kid’s jewelry store and buy a plastic engagement ring for no more than $5. Once she accepts your proposal, wait and see how long it takes her to notice that ring is bogus. If it takes her longer than two weeks to realize it, call the engagement off.

5. After you’ve been dating for two weeks, take her out for pizza and say, ”I need a favor. I’m still madly in love with my ex-girlfriend. Will you marry me? I desperately need to make her jealous.” Just make sure to bring a large piece of raw meat to remedy the black eye you are sure to get.

Engagement traditions have changed dramatically over time. Strict engagement etiquette of yesteryear has relaxed and today, even the most traditional engagements offer plenty of opportunity for the bride and groom to demonstrate their unique personality. Traditions that surround an engagement and marriage have a history that stretches back over several centuries. Engagement traditions of today are a blend of traditions from the past and from different cultures, which have been made relevant to contemporary life.

Four Time-Honored Engagement Customs

Popular traditions followed and respected by couples around the world include these engagement traditions:

1. The Proposal

The engagement and wedding process starts with the proposal. The following proposal traditions are among the most popular:

2. Choosing an Engagement Ring

One of the most well known engagement traditions is the wearing of anengagement ring. While popularity of diamond rings is a relatively recent tradition, rings have been given to mark a betrothal throughout history. Very traditional styles of engagement rings include solitaires. Fashions and trends help dictate popular styles of the time, however many brides-to-be still opt for traditional and classic styles. One engagement tradition was for the man to buy an engagement ring for his partner as a surprise. While this is still a popular tradition, many couples now choose the engagement ring together. When choosing an engagement ring it is also important to consider the wedding ring and how it will look combined with the engagement ring. Very traditional styled engagement rings look best paired with traditional styles of wedding rings.

3. Holding an Engagement Party

The tradition of holding a party to celebrate an engagement with family and friends is one that remains popular today. The party is a way for the newly engaged couple to share their news and celebrate with their loved ones. Traditionally the party would be given by the parents of the bride, however today the party is as likely to be hosted by close friends as it is by family members. Engagement parties can be low key affairs, perhaps a dinner party with just the parents of the couple but a large flamboyant party is also common. The type of party a couple chooses will depend on their personalities as well as budget and the location of family and friends.

4. Sending Engagement Announcements

Another important tradition is the sharing of the news of an engagement via anengagement announcement. The announcement of an engagement would have originally been placed in a newspaper and a letter sent to close family and friends. Today there is a much greater degree of flexibility and many more options available. A newly engaged couple can announce their engagement via email, online or in many other ways.

Add Your Own Spin to These Traditions

As engagement traditions have evolved over the years, so has the opportunity for couples to create their own special engagement by combining new and old traditions. Think about what is meaningful to you and your partner, and try to incorporate it into this special time in your lives.

Engagement ring trends have changed over the 22 years I have been in the industry. The thick heavy yellow gold trends of the nineties have made way for today’s finer rings with trends leaning towards white and rose gold. Here are the top 7 engagement ring design trends to watch in2017.

  1. Unique Scroll Work

Scroll work in the side of the setting is a subtle way of expressing the uniqueness of your engagement ring. It alludes to the traditional hand crafting nature of an engagement ring. The idea of a master jeweller filing, bending and working the metal to make it truly unique is much more appealing than a vending machine ring that is a carbon copy of the rest.

  1. Halo by Design

The halo has been increasing in popularity steadily over the years. The cushion cut halo is by far the most popular and the Passion 8, Hearts and Arrows cushion cut diamond, is the brightest cushion cut diamond on the market. The trend in 2017 will see unique takes on halos such a twisted halos and intricately designed halos that features geometric shapes and unique designs.

  1. Double Halo

With ring finances being a priority for budget savvy brides, the double halo is a great way to turn a half carat diamond into a 1.5ct diamond look. While sacrificing a little of the focus on the central diamond, the amount of bling you get from a double halo is certainly appealing to some.

  1. Classic Solitaire

The classics are making a comeback. 2017 has seen the resurgence of the timeless 6 claw solitaire with brides opting for super fine bands to really accentuate the centre ROCK. Brides have been opting for a more rounded band to give an even more slimmer appearance.

  1. Mini band split

Different from a full spilt band, the mini split band is one that starts off as a single band, and features a small spilt at the end just before the centre stone or halo. It gives the illusion of a little more width without looking chunky and is often diamond set.

  1. Think Pink

For the brides who are looking for the ultimate, Pink diamonds are the perfect choice. Mined in Western Australia and uniquely Australian, these diamonds not only look beautiful, but are an investment as well, as they are increasing by 20% – 25% every year. You can use them, as side features, in a halo or even just having one in the middle of the band. That way you can take a little piece of Australia wherever you go.

  1. It’s in the Detail

This year we have already seen an increase in the number of engagement ring with side detail. Side detail can involve anything from hand engraving into the side of your engagement ring, to a side feature diamond. When I am designing a ring for a bride to be, one of the things I ask them, is if they have a favourite colour. Surprisingly pink is not the most popular colour. Many brides are electing for the colour blue (as in a sapphire) to be used as a side feature. Maybe it is an early precursor to the wedding tradition of including something blue. The side detail feature of the engagement ring is also a great idea for brides who are looking to incorporate a family heirloom that has been handed down to them from a family member.   Whatever style you choose, there is always a way to make it totally unique for you.
