Ring Resizing Brisbane
A ring should feel secure without being uncomfortable. If it spins, slips over the knuckle too easily or becomes painfully tight, Xennox Diamonds can assess the fit and whether the ring can be resized safely in our Brisbane workshop.
Resizing is not a one-size-fits-all procedure. Metal, band width, size change, gemstones, settings, hallmarks, engraving and previous work all affect the method and likely result. We inspect the ring before confirming what is practical.
Rings we assess for resizing
• Engagement rings, including solitaire, halo and multi-stone designs
• Women’s and men’s wedding bands
• Yellow, white and rose gold rings
• Platinum rings
• Diamond and coloured-gemstone rings
• Vintage, heirloom and custom-made rings
Many rings can be made larger or smaller by altering the band. Others may need an alternative such as sizing beads, an internal sizing bar or a remade section. We recommend the least intrusive suitable option after examining the ring and checking the fit.
When resizing may be limited
Full-eternity bands, tension settings, very intricate patterns, hollow construction, some alternative metals and rings with stones around most of the band may have limited resizing options. A large size change can also alter proportions, stone alignment, engraving or decorative details. In some cases, remaking the ring is safer than forcing a conventional resize.
Stone-set and gemstone rings
Before work begins, accessible settings and stones are inspected. Some gemstones are more vulnerable to heat, pressure, chemicals or ultrasonic cleaning than diamonds. Emeralds and treated or fracture-filled stones can require particular caution. The safest method depends on the stone, setting and construction, and removal or resetting may sometimes be recommended.
Gold and platinum resizing
Yellow gold, rose gold, white gold and platinum have different alloy and finishing requirements. White gold commonly needs refinishing and may need rhodium plating after resizing so the worked area matches the rest of the ring. Rose gold and platinum require methods appropriate to their specific metallurgy. A truly invisible join cannot be promised on every design, particularly where the ring already shows wear or patterning.
Our ring resizing process
1. Fit and condition check
We measure the finger and ring, discuss comfort, and inspect the band, settings and stones.
2. Recommendation and quote
We explain the proposed size, method, limitations, timing and price.
3. Workshop adjustment
Approved work is completed and the ring is refinished as appropriate.
4. Final inspection
We check the fit, finish, structure and accessible stone settings before collection.
Finding a comfortable fit
Finger size can change with temperature, activity, medication, pregnancy and other factors. Wider bands generally feel tighter than narrow bands. For a more reliable measurement, avoid choosing a size when your hands are unusually hot, cold or swollen, and bring any rings that will be stacked together.
