The Vinnies CEO Sleepout takes place in every capital city across Australia in June each year. The event was created to highlight the plight of homelessness in Australia by challenging business and community leaders to experience homelessness first-hand for just one night.
In 2010 the event was launched nationally and exceeded expectations, attracting almost 700 CEOs in 7 cities nationally and raising $2.9 million to directly assist people experiencing homelessness.
The aim of the Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout is not only to raise funds, but raise awareness of homelessness. Our goal is not just to service the homeless, but to bring about an end to homelessness. The discomfort of sleeping on the streets is a fragment of the larger reality we hope to impart upon influential leaders of the community. With their help, and yours, we can fight the issue of homelessness together.
Having been involved since 2011, i have helped raise more than $25,000 for Vinnie’s. This is a cause that i do feel very passionately about. What i learnt from the previous year’s events, was that some of the people on the street are there through no fault of their own, just as a result of circumstance or bad luck. The people who live on the street are no different from you or I, they have families and people who care about them.
