Gym’s are great for personal fitness but a gym will kill your rings. Some of the most destroyed pieces of jewellery i have ever seen come from avid gym trainers who wear their jewellery at the gym. If you want to protect your ring and increase its life expectancy, then here are some things to avoid the gym killing your rings.

5 ways the gym will kill your rings

gym will kill your rings - hammered wedding rings

1. Metal on metal

Gold and platinum are still soft metals compared to that of the steel bars and dumbells at a gym. The crisscross serrated pattern will cut into your ring like butter, or leaved a hammered like appearance on the metal. While this can be polished out, every time you have to polish a ring, it takes of a fine layer of gold – prematurely wearing the ring down.

2. Distorting the rings shape

When you lift weights or anything of substance it puts an uneven pressure on two sides of the ring, causing it to be pushed out of shape and have an oval appearance when placed flat on a table. The more times a ring is moved out of its centre position the more brittle it becomes. This will cause the ring to crack at its weakest point, which is usually the solder join at the bottom of the ring. While this can be repaired, if it is done to often it will wear down your ring.

gym will kill your rings - missing diamonds

3. Causing diamonds to come loose

A second factor of the ring being pushed out of shape is that it causes the top setting of your ring to open and close. This flexing motion will gradually make the stones of your engagement ring loose, which will require more trips to the jeweller for regular maintenance to have the stones tightened.

4. Dermatitis

While working up a sweat at the gym is a great goal if you are looking to tone up, sometimes it can cause dermatitis if the moisture becomes trapped under your rings. This is generally made worse in the lower carat golds such as 9ct, as there are more minor alloys that can react with your skin.

5. Rhodium plating

If you ring is made of white gold, then it most likely has a surface rhodium plating applied to it. While this process is normally redone every 2-3 years with normal wear and tear. Wearing your rings at the gym will speed up the deterioration of the rhodium.

Solutions to stop the gym killing your ring

1. Put your ring in your locker

Putting your rings in a lockable locker is perhaps the most secure option for your rings as it will avoid any metal contact. Depending on the gym that you go to, this may not be possible. For some ladies it is also a trust issue. After all your engagement and wedding ring are very sentimental, and you wouldn’t want it to be misplaced. If you are at all worried about this there is one final option.

2. Wear your ring on a chain

gym will kill your rings - solutionChoosing a metal carat that is the same as your ring is the best option. So if your ring is 18ct white gold, choose an 18ct white gold chain. Likewise if you have a platinum engagement ring or wedding ring choose a platinum chain. 9ct chains are to be avoided if you can help it. Because the 9ct is so much more brittle it is a lot more prone to snapping, which could result in the loss of your rings. The best style of chain for hanging a ring on is a Foxtail chain. It has three links reinforcing each other, so will be able to carry even the heaviest ring.

3.Try choosing a Platinum600 wedding band.

It is regular platinum wedding ring combined with Tungsten. Which means that not only can it be resized, it is twice as hard as 9ct, and even 20% harder than normal platinum.

Research Shows – Size Doesn’t matter !!!

Diamond Size Vs Quality

A recent study found that 84% of respondents surveyed, stated that they would prefer a smaller diamond size if it was of a higher quality. This was in line with further questioning that showed that 86% didn’t want a showy engagement ring at the expense of quality.*  (*Intertrade 2013)

When it comes to diamonds, diamond size is the least important characteristic. You can radically change the price of a ring by a $1000 by reducing the diamond size of a diamond by ten points (or 0.2mm, which is hardly discernable to the naked eye). To achieve the same saving without changing the size you would need to resort to having an incredibly flawed and yellow diamond, which is visible from a distance.

Diamond Size Vs Quality

My advice is to always aim for a slightly smaller excellent cut high performance diamond like a Passion8 “hearts and arrows”, rather than just a larger one. Passion8 cut the most perfectly cut round and princess cut diamonds in the world. The precision cutting puts them in the top 1% in the world for cut grade. On average it takes them 6 times as long to cut a perfect cut “hearts and arrows” diamond as a regular excellent cut diamond. The also return 99% of the light that enters in through the table. One thing that clients comment on most is that their Passion8 diamonds sparkle for longer and even when dirty compared to their friends diamonds. Unfortunately diamonds are not like a bottle of wine – they are not going to get better in years to come. If you buy the best cut grade diamond you can now, it will always be the best and continue to sparkle for the rest of your life.

Come and see how much better a perfect cut looks than just going for a larger diamond size. If you have any questions or would like to know more about the Passion8 diamonds, please feel free to email at info@xennoxdiamonds.com.au

radianthaloDiamond halo engagement ring designs are extremely popular at the moment. Whether it is a centre round brilliant cut diamond or fancy shape like this radiant, the range of halo designs is always expanding.

When deciding on a halo engagement ring design there are two main design styles to choose from – grain set and claw set. Don’t worry to much about worrying if you have made the right choice as ultimately there is no right or wrong style. It’s just a matter of personal preference, and which ring you think looks better on your hands. Here are a few things to keep in mind when looking for your diamond

1. Grain set halo engagement rings

A grain set halo engagement ring is typically a single row of 1 point diamonds (0.01ct) surrounding the centre stone. However lately double row halo designs are also becoming more popular.

Advantages

Grain set diamonds are embedded into the metal and are secured with small grains/beads that hold the diamonds in. Because there is more metal around the stones, you will save money of the overall diamond weight of your ring.

Disadvantages

The grain set diamonds create a diamond set border around your centre stone. In the case of a single row this may make your centre stone stand out more, because it creates a contrast. In the case of a double row, while it might create an overall larger look, it can tend to make your centre diamond look smaller.

2. Claw set halo engagement rings

diamond halo engagement ring

A claw set diamond halo engagement ring, uses typically 2 – 3 point diamonds (0.02 – 0.03ct) set in claw settings around your centre diamond.

Advantages

Because the surrounding diamonds are much larger it tends to give a greater sparkle that blends in more with your centre stone giving an overall much larger diamond look. The design style is also great if you have a few inclusions towards the outside of your main diamond. The sheer volume of sparkle and bling tends to make it harder to focus on the the inclusions.

Disadvantages

The only apparent disadvantage of this style is that you might loose the individualism of your centre stone. Although this is a disadvantage that many brides are willing to live with.

What to look for when choosing your diamond halo engagement ring

Bespoke Master Jeweller

Diamond halo engagement ring designs need to be made by exceptional jewellers. There are two things that you must look for when choosing your engagement ring.

1. Which ever design you choose make sure that the ring is made well and there isn’t any gaps between the halo diamonds as this will give you a really gappy look. This usually happens with the jeweller has either not calculated the right spacing around the main stone or the diamond setter has selected diamonds that are too small for the setting.

2. Ensure there is not a gap between the centre diamond and the surrounding diamonds. This will not only detract from that bigger diamond look that you are aiming for, but it is also a place that hand cream, soap and dirt will collect.

ring drawing imageAt Xennox Diamonds, I always like to draw a 3D sketch of our halo diamond engagement rings, so you clients can see exactly what your ring will look like. Drawing your engagement ring to scale is extremely helpful to see how big the diamond is, and what the overlapping effect will look like. Diamonds in your wedding bandMatching a wedding band to your engagement ring should be an easy process if your engagement ring has been designed with this in mind. Almost every engagement ring can be made to sit flush with a wedding band. It just takes extra time and precise direction to angle the wires to a small base. While some ladies might be inclined to change their engagement ring at one time or another, most feel extremely sentimental about their wedding bands. So it is important to choose a band that you can see your self wearing for the next 40 -50 years.

Making a wedding ring to match your solitaire engagement ring

Having your wedding band compliment your engagement ring perfectly can make all the difference to the way the set looks. An expert craftsmen can shape the profile of the wedding band to match the engagement ring so it looks like the two were made at the same time.

What style of wedding ring will match my engagement ring ?

1.Solitaire

traditional wedder

The great thing about a classic solitaire engagement ring is that you can have either a classic wedding band or a diamond wedding ring. It really depends on whether you love the”traditional” look your mum used to have or whether you would like something that reflects a bit more or “your style” The traditional wedder will generally give a a constant level of wear all around that band, as it will constantly spin on your finger.

2. Engagement rings with shoulder set diamonds

matching diamond engagement rings

If your engagement ring has diamond set shoulder stones, the best matching option is to hand make the matching diamond band with the same setting. For example – If you have channel setting in the engagement ring, then your perfect match would be a channel set wedding band. Ideally one that starts and finishes as the same spot as your engagement ring.

When choosing the size of the diamonds in your wedding band, I always recommend choosing the same size, and shape. Remember it is not just the wedding ring you have to think of, in a years time there will be an “eternity ring” on the other side. If you do want to go bigger in the diamond size, then make sure it is noticeably bigger. Otherwise it will look like you tried to make it matching but couldn’t.

3.Wedding bands to avoid

mircopave wedders

Micro pave – the philosophy behind this setting style is to make the beads holding the diamonds in as small as possible to accentuate the diamonds. The problem with this is that the settings are not as secure and the diamonds are more likely to fall out. Unfortunately with this style it is not a case or IF your are going to loose a diamond it is a matter of WHEN.

If you are looking for some advice on the best wedding ring to compliment your engagement ring, our friendly and helpful staff are always on hand to offer guidance and help you pick the perfect match to your engagement ring.

Which diamond cut looks the biggest? Have you ever wondered if a 1 carat round brilliant cut diamond looks bigger than a 1 carat princess cut diamond? I am often asked whether round or square diamonds look bigger by many brides-to-be as they begin the journey of picking their perfect diamond engagement ring. While the sparkle and fire of a diamond are important, the physical size of the diamond can also play a part in your decision making process.

Diamond Maths | The Geeky Stuff

Here is the maths for the surface area of a 1 carat princess cut diamond versus a 1 carat round brilliant cut diamond.

Formula for the surface of a square is length x width. square = a2

For a perfect cut 1ct princess cut it would be – 5.5 x 5.5 = 30.25

Formula for the surface area of a circle = pi r 2

For a perfect cut 1 carat round brilliant cut diamond with a 6.5mm spread – 3.252 x 3.14 = 33.16

round vs square diamonds -

From this basic analysis of the two different stones we can see that the round brilliant cut diamond is approximately 10% larger in surface area than the princess cut diamond. While this doesn’t take into account the effect of the claws, on face value it appears the round brilliant cut is winning the size debate. However, if you took the diagonal measurement of a 1 carat princess cut, it would measure approximately 7.7mm, which is more than 1mm wider than a 1 carat round brilliant cut diamond. So sometimes, when determining which one is bigger, it simply depends on how it appears in the flesh.

Diamond Maths | The Money Stuff

If you are about to set out on the hunt for your engagement ring and want to know how to get the biggest diamond for your buck, then read on. Ultimately, if you were to spend the same money, the princess cut diamond would actually give you a bigger physical diamond in comparison to the round cut diamond. This is because the rough crystal for a princess cut diamond is significantly cheaper and more economical to cut than that of the round.

Therefore, should size be an important consideration for you, you will be able to get a bigger diamond overall for your budget. On average, for well cut diamonds, there is at least a 25% price difference between a round brilliant and princess cut diamond. In the case of a 1 carat F SI1 round brilliant cut diamond, you would be able to buy a 1.3 carat F SI1 princess cut diamond.

Which Diamond Cut Really Is The Biggest?

From this we can see that if you were to spend the same budget, you would actually get a 10% bigger surface area by purchasing a princess cut diamond ring, instead of a round brilliant cut diamond ring.

While maths can be fun (well for some of us anyway), we are really passionate about finding the perfect diamond for you. Whether you have your heart set on a round brilliant cut diamond or a princess cut diamond, we will find the perfect ring for you. We are always available for a chat, and have an amazing selection of loose diamonds for you to have a look at. Poor cutomer service

Bad customer service has become one of the central talking points of the modern retail experience. Have you ever walked into a shop and had to jump up and down, or stand on a soap box just to grab the attention of a disinterested salesperson? In an age where an increasing amount of transactions are completed online, one has to ask – are we losing the human touch? Customer service is becoming less about what the client wants, and more about what the sales person’s targets are or what they are trying to move. Here’s a list of six things one simply should not say to a client!

Customer Service No-No’s

1.This is what you should have…

A prime example of words usually uttered by a sales person that wasn’t interested in taking the time to learn about their client or what was going to serve their needs and desires. A professional sales person should be attentive to their clients, after all, they are the paying customer. Our job, as professional sales people, is to guide the client along their journey, even if just a little.

2. No, you can’t have that…

disintersted staff

Let’s face it – who likes to hear the word no? Murphy’s law dictates that if there are two ways a product can be made, you will find the opposite to the one that you wanted. The role of a sales person is to find a way to make the object of a client’s desires attainable. My favourite mantra is – “The answer to every question is YES!

 3. It’s the manufacturer’s responsibility…

This always strikes me as professional “buck” passing. A business should always confidently stand behind the products that they sell. You can’t be willing to accept a client’s money at the time of the sale and then hold them at arms length when something goes wrong. Not every transaction goes right 100% of the time, but the way that a business handles the occasional lapses in product quality and customer satisfaction, says a lot about an organisation and their staff. Have you ever had an Apple retail assistant turn around and say, “its the manufacturer’s responsibility”?

4. If you don’t buy it today, the price will go up tomorrow…

Often heard in stores that specialise in annual sales. This one always reminds me of the “Rug Man” sales. No one likes to be pressured into a sale with the threat of a price hike should they not make a purchase decision that fits with the sales assistant’s timeframe. Purchasing a stunning piece of jewellery should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience, that isn’t solely focused on price.

5. That’s our policy…

bad customer serviceNo two transactions are the same. Every piece of jewellery is as unique as the client wearing it. Having a blanket rule that is a one size fits all, is bound to leave some clients feeling left out in the cold. There is no reason a business should be inflexible to a client’s concerns. In business, there is always a compromise, where both parties can reach an outcome which is mutually beneficial. The last thing a business wants or needs, is for a disgruntled client to verbalise their concerns in a public forum.

6. What’s your budget?

I find sales people that lead with this very abrasive. I find that it is better to avoid pigeon holing clients. It is far more advantageous to the client, and your business, to devote time to finding the perfect ring that ticks all of their boxes. If you only ever look at the rings in your budget, you may miss the perfect ring style. Almost every design can be customised to incorporate a different sized diamond. Not to mention that I have often seen clients come in with one figure in mind and leave with another, once you have taken the time to show them the differences in product quality.

You should never have to settle for bad customer service. Shopping for an engagement or wedding rings should be an enjoyable experience. If a business does not show you, that you are one of the most valuable pieces to their organisation. Then show them, in the best way you can, by shopping somewhere else.

Those are my top six offending customer service phrases; feel free to add yours below.

diamonds used in Antique diamond rings

Do you have some antique diamond rings lying around in your jewellery box sitting on your dresser? Not sure what to do with them? Why not have them remodeled into something more modern that you can and want to wear? Unfortunately a lot of the rings containing antique diamonds are very out dated and, more often than not, don’t do the diamond justice. You might be surprised, not only will remodeling grandma’s diamond ring make it a more beautiful, wearable piece, but it may increase the value of it too. The four most common types of antique cut diamonds are; the European cut diamond, the Old Mine cut diamond, the Rose cut diamond and the Single cut diamond.

Old European Cut Diamonds

antique diamond rings using an European cut diamond

The old European diamond is considered one of the most popular, traditional cuts. It has a very small table (top facet), a high crown and usually an open culet at the bottom (central circular window you can see in the middle of the diamond). This diamond cut was the precursor to the modern round brilliant cut. Unlike the modern round brilliant, most old European diamonds are slightly irregular in their circular shape. It is also quite common to have a few inclusions in these stones. While this might worry some who are looking at a modern round brilliant cut diamond, there are some that believe that it merely adds character.

Remodelling Tips For Antique Diamond Rings

If you are looking at remodelling and breathing new life into your antique diamond ring, here are a few tips;

  1. Set the diamond in a bezel setting;
    • Because of their irregular cutting and girdle (outside perimeter), it can sometimes be a good idea to hide some of these imperfections in a bezel setting. This will make the diamond look more round and larger in size.
  2. Surround the antique diamond with a diamond halo;
    • Below is a remodelling commission that we completed recently with an old European cut diamond. If you look closely you can see the off center table facet (to the left of centre), and the little culet window at the bottom of the stone. The diamond halo does a great job of disguising the irregularities.
  3. Set the diamond in white gold;
    • The white gold colour is also great for improving the colour of the stones in antique diamond rings, as most of them are in the H-I colour range.

If you would like some ideas on remodelling old diamonds that have been handed down to you or inherited, please email me to arrange a time to draw up some 3D designs. We can also value your diamonds for you and prepare insurance valuation certificates where necessary.

Recutting Diamonds from Antique Diamond Rings

As you can see from the illustration on the right hand side, it is often better to leave some antique diamond rings in their current form. With the outside shape representing the old European cut diamond, and the inside diamond the modern brilliant cut diamond, you can often lose as much as 25% of their weight by having them recut. While the diamond might become brighter from recutting, it is usually not advisable if the diamond has a large culet or high crown unless the original diamond is quite large.

Every old cut diamond is unique. The only way to decide whether recutting your diamond is the right option for you, is to have it assessed by a diamond cut expert. At Xennox Diamonds we have expert diamond cutters at our disposal who can provide free, professional advice on the best course of action. If you have any questions about remodelling antique diamond rings or recutting your diamond, please post them in the comments section or visit us in store.

Proposing to the lady of your dreams is one of the greatest passages of life for a young man and there can be a tremendous amount of pressure to come up with the perfect proposal. While there are undoubtedly many articles giving you ideas on how to come up with the most magical proposal, here are a few things to avoid to ensure that it is memorable for all the right reasons.

1. Proposing in a crowded restaurant with a string ensemble

proposing in a crowded restaurantWhile it might look good in a movie, I am sure it would be far from their idea of perfect if you asked a room full of ladies. Being put on the spot in front of a crowd and asked the question they have been dreaming of for years, might not be high on their romantic proposal list. While most guys think it should be an easy “YES” answer, some ladies like to take a bit of time to process it and soak in the moment. The crowded restaurant might also be a bit noisy, distracting and overwhelming to take in everything that you are saying. According to a study by Theknot, 68% of women remember what was said during the proposal, so you want to make sure she can hear you loud and clear.

2. Proposing in front of the TV

You usually only get one shot at proposing, so don’t rush it. While you might be really excited after picking up your diamond engagement ring from the jeweller, it is important to wait for the right moment. She will really appreciate you putting some thought into proposing. “Winging it” might seem like a good idea at the time, but there is no substitute for a properly thought out idea.  Let’s face it, as guys we aren’t the best communicators and don’t always have a way with words, so it is also not a bad idea to rehearse what you are going to say. The last thing you want to be doing is stuttering and fumbling through your proposal whilst telling your future bride how much she means to you.

3. Be careful with using children and animals

proposing with petsMany Hollywood producers have learnt this the hard way. Involving young children in your plans for proposing may put unnecessary pressure on them to get it right. And lets face it, pets, and even children for that matter, can be unpredictable at the best of times. The last thing you need is your animal accomplice running off with the diamond ring and burying it somewhere in the garden. Sorry gents, but the daunting prospect of proposing to your future bride is not something that you can delegate.

4. Don’t use an old ring

One of the biggest no no’s. No lady likes to feel like she was the next one in line. Apart from the bad sentiments attached to the ring, most believe it is extremely tacky and even bad luck. Every lady is unique and the ring you choose for her should reflect that. Saying one ring fits all is definitely not going to win you any brownie points that’s for sure.  Further, it could really ruin the magic proposal you had planned if she ever found out.

5. Don’t make the proposal about what you like

While you might have significant control over the planning of the proposal, remember this is something she has probably been waiting for for some time. While spending the day out on a boat deep sea fishing and proposing after you just pulled in the biggest marlin sounds like a fantastic day for you, I can almost guarantee you it won’t be hers. Take the time to think about the things that she likes and tailor the proposal to this. Does she like romantic walks along the beach or is she more of a snowboarding action girl?

Take home message

 Gents, if you only take one thing away from all of this, it is this;

keep it simple, personal and from the heart.

There is no such thing as a perfect proposal. What might be magical for one couple may be the complete opposite for another. This aside, there are a few ingredients you should include to ensure it’s the magical moment it should be for the both of you. From choosing the right diamond ring to uncovering the perfect proposal location, here are a few must have’s for planning the perfect proposal.

The Perfect Proposal Location

sunset perfect proposalLike buying a home, the right location can make all the difference. Choosing an amazing location that means something special to your partner, will really set the scene. It doesn’t need to be on a romantic island on the Great Barrier Reef. It could be where you first met, a special place from her childhood or yours, or something extreme like on top of a mountain. You don’t need to spend a lot of money choosing the perfect location, it could be something as simple as a sunset walk down your favourite beach.

Perfect Proposal Props

Adding things like signs are a great way to add impact. If you find you get tongue tied, perhaps try writing a series of notes and leave them as a trail for her to follow. A picture is worth a thousand words, so why not make a collage of your history together and leave some space for future photos to go?

perfect marry me proposal

Perfect Words

These days, with the prominence of technology, a lot of gents are choosing to create short videos and upload them to YouTube to create a bigger impact. If you choose to do so, there is no need for a fancy video camera, more often than not, your trusty iPhone will suffice. The inclusion of music is also a great way to improve the atmosphere for your perfect proposal. Use your special couple song or have her favourite music playing in the background when you pop the question, and finally give her a dozen roses once she’s said yes.

This is probably the least favourite part for most guys, because it usually involves a bit of mushy stuff. However, if there was ever a time for it, then this is it. Prepare a few short heartfelt words for the proposal and practice, practice, practice. It doesn’t need to be 5 minutes long or outline a list of your best attributes, just tell your partner why you love them and why you want to spend the rest of your life with them.

The Perfect Gentlemen

ask her father For some the tradition of asking a father for his daughter’s hand in marriage may seem a little old fashioned, but for others it is still an important step and something that will certainly be appreciated. In this day and age, there are very few fathers standing at the door with a loaded shotgun, warding off all intruders. They may be just as protective of their daughters, but most fathers are approachable. Offer to take him out for a game of golf for example or choose your moment where the two of you can be alone. I think most fathers at this stage will anticipate what’s coming next. Try and plan to do this the week of the proposal also, so that way they are not having to keep the secret from their daughter for too long.

The Perfect Ring

One of the most important things about planning the perfect proposal is of course surprising your partner with the perfect engagement ring. According to The Knot, 32% of women say the biggest proposal mistake you can make is not having a ring. If she hasn’t been dropping any hints about what she would like her engagement ring to look like, go with something simple and classic. Have a look at the jewellery she is already wearing. If she wears a lot of silver or white gold, then a white gold diamond engagement ring is usually a safe bet. When purchasing an engagement ring, it is always a good idea to ask what the exchange policy is.

A Word of Advice to the Gentlemen

Call it intuition or plain curiosity, most ladies will know that the proposal is coming. While the element of surprise is something to strive for, it is not as important as creating the perfect proposal that is magical in every way. When she retells the story to her friends and family later, she will no doubt remember all of the effort you put into the proposal, irrespective of whether she knew it was coming or not.

care-pledge-imgHave you been waiting for Mr Right to propose with your dream engagement ring? If it doesn’t look like it is going to happen any time soon, maybe you might need to start dropping some carefully positioned hints in order to get the ball rolling. After all, maybe the reason he hasn’t proposed is because he doesn’t know which engagement ring you like? When you think about it, you would actually be doing him a favour by helping him along this journey. Whether you choose to drop these hints or not, and how often you drop them might depend on how long you have been together or whether you have discussed the prospect of marriage yet. The average time before most couples consider tying the knot is usually around the 3-5 years.

The Engagement Ring Magazine Circle

Circling engagement rings in catalogues or magazines is a great way to show your partner which rings you like. Similarly, putting crosses through rings that you dislike, will definitely let him know what NOT to buy. A few well positioned notes also next to the ring such as “my dream ring” could certainly help your cause. Once you have selected the ring or rings you like, the next thing you need to do is strategically place them around the house. A great place would be a coffee table, with the TV remote placed on top of it. If he misses this subtle clue, try opening the magazine to the right page.

engagement ring hint droping

They often say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. If watching tv is not his thing, why not try cutting out your favourite engagement ring picture and putting it on the fridge? That way he is more likely to see it.

Screensaver

Once you find your dream ring, try taking a photo of it and strategically placing it on technological devices. With most smart phones these days, you can save the photo to your lock screen or your phones background. Your home computer is also a great place to save your photo somewhat subtly on the desktop, and perhaps less so as the screensaver.

Facebook

Liking an engagement ring specialist Facebook page is always a subtle way to let him know you are interested in moving your relationship to the next stage. If that doesn’t work, try tagging him in your favourite engagement ring photos or in the comments section of your different wedding and engagement ring related posts.

Publication1The Jewellery Store Drive-by

If you find yourself walking past a jewellery store, gradually drift over to the window. As he follows you, make a few comments about the engagement rings you do and perhaps don’t like. The subtle version can be a general casual remark about the ring styles you like. For example, “Isn’t that one beautiful? I love the white gold princess cut diamond rings”. The more overt version may start something like, ” When you propose to me, I like these designs….”

Design It Yourself Or Shop For It Together

engagement ring hint droping at XennoxDesigning or shopping for your engagement ring together might not seem as romantic, but is a sure-fire way to get the exact ring that you want. One way to make it easier is to cut down the number of jewellery stores he gets dragged through by doing some of the leg work for him. After you have narrowed it down to a few stores by yourself, get a few designs you like written on cards. Try and keep the number of rings you like to two or three, that way he will still at least have had some input into choosing your engagement ring and there will still be an element of surprise. Don’t be afraid to tell him exactly what it is you do and don’t like from a design point of view. He can always personalise it later from a diamond size perspective. Don’t worry if you know what the engagement ring looks like, he still will be able to keep the proposal a romantic surprise for you. Once you have chosen the ring with him, make sure you put it out of your mind and not nag him every week for it. You have done all the ground work for him, now it is time to let romance take its course.
