Wedding traditions have been a popular wedding day feature for centuries, and are exercised by both superstitious and rational couples. While you may have heard of throwing the bouquet, tying tin cans to the bridal car and throwing the garter, here are five charming and cheeky traditions you may not have heard of.
1. Kiss and Tell
It is a tradition in Sweden for wedding reception guests to shower either the bride or the groom with kisses whenever they are alone. If the bride leaves her husband’s side to go to the bathroom he can look forward to smooches from almost every guest in the room.
2. Dancing Feet
In the Irish tradition, the bride is warned never to lift her feet off the floor when dancing at her wedding reception. If she does lift a foot it is believed evil fairies are likely to come and steal her away from her groom.
3. A Little Pinch
Possibly one of the sounder traditions in this list; Egyptian women will pinch the bride (who knows where) on her wedding day for good luck.
4. Sugar Coating
In order to sweeten the union between bride and groom, Greek brides can stick to tradition and place a sugar cube inside their bridal gloves while wearing them.
5. Silver Sixpence
Another Irish wedding tradition, placing a silver sixpence in a bride’s left shoe is believed to bring the wedded couple prosperity and happiness.
